🌍 WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2025
📅 20 June 2025
📢 “WE ARE REFUGEES, HEAR OUR VOICES.”
Today, the world observes World Refugee Day, a day to honor the strength, courage, and resilience of millions of refugees forced to flee their homelands due to conflict, persecution, and injustice. For us, the Rohingya, this day is not just symbolic, it is deeply personal.
This day also marks the establishment of our organization,
🔹 Rohingya Youth Empowerment Network (RYEN)
Established on World Refugee Day, RYEN came from pain, but it was built with hope. It stands as a voice for the voiceless, a platform for the powerless, and a movement of young Rohingya determined to rise beyond victimhood.
🛑 We did not choose to become refugees.
The military attacks in Myanmar, the burning of our homes, the killing of our people, the silencing of our voices, and the denial of our identity forced us to leave.
Between October 2016 to January 2017, and again starting from 25 August 2017, the Myanmar military and extremist groups carried out brutal violence in Rakhine State. Over 25,000 to 43,000 people were killed, many women were raped, entire villages were destroyed, and more than 700,000 Rohingya were forced to flee to other countries, especially to Bangladesh.
This was not just violence, it was genocide, ethnic cleansing, and a crime against humanity.
💪 We are the new generation of Rohingya, activists, artists, writers and leaders are united for justice, dignity, and peace.
Through RYEN, we:
• Empower refugee youth with skills and confidence
• Advocate for Rohingya rights across borders
• Share stories the world must hear
• Support education, Vulnerable families, and creative expression
📣 To the world, we say this:
We are refugees, yes, but we are also dreamers, fighters, survivors, and humans.
Do not pity us, stand with us.
Do not silence us, hear us.
Do not look away, see us.
✊ Let’s unite not just in memory, but in action.
Because every refugee deserves a voice,
And every voice can change the world.
